Making it up
Making it up is a performance anthology of abstract and personal investigations into identity and mixed-raced personhood.
Chapter 2’s working title is pop hime, a forgotten taste / quietly disappearing
in development
In-progress sharings as part of Mascall Dance’s Bloom Series 2021 & Dance West Network Showcase 2019.
Chapter 1 is titled The meeting.
The meeting observes themes of loneliness and existential tenderness. Playfully using a live-stream video feed and DIY-scenography Erika reveals an imaginative microcosm: a world built in isolation, where a sacred meeting ensues between a cosmic vibrant-being and their assigned flesh-being on Earth. The work attempts to collapse time and space, puncturing realities of where the performance exists -- the physical spaces where Erika and the audience exist, the microcosm, and the digital sphere -- reaching for a feeling of distant intimacy between Erika and the audience she is so glad to have present.
Initial development through the response.’s dance cafe, for the 2020 DOTE Festival digital programming. Future development scheduled for 2021.
