Being(s) in plain site

Playing off the common turn of phrase “hidden in plain sight” or “in plain sight”, Being(s) in plain site is a weekly part photo-essay, part blog-ish collection of reflections, thoughts and imagined narratives, revealing this practice of being simultaneously hidden and revealed within plain site.

Humbly created for The Dance Centre’s digital dance programming.

portals

In my imagining of the manifestation or discovery of a portals, they looked like some kind of circular, slightly wave-y hole.

Then I realized that they could be more like a membrane or a seam.

And then it transformed into a feeling, like dropping or surging into another place.

And then the portals became openings, that could be visible or not.

And they could be inside me.

And I definitely found them in the faces of beloved friends and lovers.

And what if the portals or little gaps could remain open, you could plant one foot here and one there.

Close your eyes.

Feel for the seam, step through.

or linger in-between.

It kind of feels like a whole body flossing.

Like a clown fish grazing a sea anemone.

A caress from the universe.

The in-betweens start to multiply, you are everywhere at once.

I started writing about dancing and what it was that I was feeling when I was doing it. I couldn’t shut out the noise in my brain so I closed my eyes. All I could imagine was every instance I saw something that looked like a gap in the universe, between this reality and the next. I think when it comes down to it, that’s it for me. Being in the in-between, which is the now, which is all of the nows that could ever happen and letting the universe caress me, taking me somewhere else while being hyper here. now. always.

ooof.

This concludes my digital “dancing” supported by The Dance Centre. I’ll still be here searching away. Letting my practice live in the servers that hold this data so that they can reach you and reach me. A digital touching / seeing / feeling / thinking… for now. In the mean time, I’m going to move my body in ways that are-yet to be known to me or maybe are already known? hahaha this could continue forever. Until soon.

Eternally yours,

Erika, in plain site
